How to use this calculator

  1. Find the karat stamped on your piece (e.g. 14K, 18K, 585, 750). The stamp tells you gold purity.
  2. Weigh it in grams on a jewelry scale. Convert pennyweights (dwt) by ×1.555, or troy oz by ×31.1.
  3. Enter both above. The result is melt value, what the raw gold content is worth.
Melt value is not a purchase offer. Most gold buyers pay 60–90% of melt. Heavier, sellable pieces and bullion command more; small or damaged scrap gets less. Get multiple quotes before selling.
